The inaugural British Obstacle Sports Junior Championship hosted by Swanbourne Events near Milton Keynes was held on the 23rd October 2022.

Set-up and run by British Obstacle Sports (BOS) who oversee and encourage participation in Obstacle Sports Racing in the UK, the Junior Champs are aiming to get more Juniors into the sport to help develop the future athletes.

With the course set-out over some gruelling terrain, the 10-13 years old age category would compete over a 5 km course with 30 demanding obstacles. The 14-17 years old age category would use the same course but slightly extended to 8 km and an additional 10 obstacles. Obstacles ranged from: water submersions; stream crossings; carries; up and overs; rigs - to name just a few.

Over 100 junior athletes were present on the day and took-on the course. The weather on the day played its part, with heavy rain hampering footing and ensuring none of the obstacles would be easy to complete in these conditions.

The race was a resounding success, with some very good talent competing at the highest level. All juniors found it challenging, and most had to dig deep to get to the end - but, all had a beaming smile on their faces and thoroughly enjoyed!

"The rain made it very muddy and slippy which was challenging.

The obstacles were very good and well thought-out by British Obstacle Sports.

I am very happy to have competed in the first ever Junior Championships and to finish 11th female in the 10-13 years old age category is a massive personal success.

I would like to thank everyone involved, and look forward to next year's championship already.

But, before I can concentrate on that, I am racing in Florida in December at the Spartan Kids World Championships."
